Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Lead Backend Engineer (Node.js) to lead the design and development of scalable backend systems powering modern digital platforms. In this role, you will architect reliable services, guide engineering teams, and ensure high-performance infrastructure that supports large-scale applications.

You will work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams to build secure and efficient systems while maintaining best practices in software development.

Backend engineers specializing in Node.js typically develop server-side logic, APIs, and integrations that power modern web and mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and development of scalable backend services using Node.js

  • Design and implement RESTful and GraphQL APIs

  • Build high-performance backend systems capable of handling large traffic volumes

  • Develop and maintain microservices and distributed systems

  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to integrate server-side logic with applications

  • Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability of backend services

  • Implement security best practices, authentication, and data protection

  • Conduct code reviews and mentor backend developers

  • Work with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and cloud deployments

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in backend development

  • Strong experience with Node.js and modern JavaScript (ES6+)

  • Experience with Express.js or similar frameworks

  • Solid understanding of REST APIs and microservices architecture

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure

  • Experience with Docker and containerized environments

  • Strong understanding of system architecture and scalability

  • Experience working in Agile development environments

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills

Backend developers are expected to build server-side services, manage databases, integrate APIs, and ensure performance and scalability.
